What shall I return to the Lord for all his bounty to me? Psalm 116:12
Christian stewardship reflects an attitude toward all of life. God is the creator of everything. As God's people, we are given the responsibility to care for what God has provided. God's gifts are bountiful, and we are meant to enjoy them with gratitude and to share them with love.
Westminster sees generosity in giving and faithfulness in serving as two hallmarks of good stewardship. Tithes and offerings are used with great care for the "up building of the Body... for the work of the ministry." Each ministry at Westminster, with careful planning and approval from the Session, determines the financial needs of our congregation for worship, nurture and congregational care, education, fellowship, adequate staffing, and care of our facilities. A substantial portion of our annual income is also used for outreach ministries, both locally and globally.
Giving to the work of the church is a grateful response to the blessings God has bestowed upon us. We are called as church members to share joyfully and give generously of not only our money, but also of our skills and time. "A faithful member accepts Christ's call to be involved responsibly in the ministry of one's Church. Such involvement includes... supporting the work of the church through the giving of money, time, and talents...." All that we have and all that we own are gifts from God. We are called to share our gifts with God through supporting the ministries and mission of the church. Westminster is blessed with many members who actively live a life of gracious Christian stewardship.
