Worship and Music at Westminster

Worship

Cry out with joy to the Lord, all the earth.  Worship the Lord with gladness.  Come into God's presence with singing!  For the Lord is a gracious God, whose mercy is everlasting; and whose faithfulness endures to all generations.  Psalm 100:1, 2, 5

We gather for two services of worship each Sunday:

8:30 a.m.   Weekly celebration of the Lord's Supper

11 a.m.      Celebration of the Lord's Supper on the first Sunday of the month

Sunday, August 1, 2010
18th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Preaching:  Rev. Kathy Anderson
The Parable of the Two Sons
Scripture: Matthew 21:28-32

While each service enjoys its own style of musical expression, both services follow the order of Service for the Lord's Day, which includes reading of scriptures, singing of hymns, the gospel proclaimed, prayers of confession, intercession, and thanksgiving, and the opportunity to respond with the offering of our lives and resources back to God.

Children of all ages are always welcome in worship at Westminster.

The nursery, located in Room 2 of the Education Wing, is available during each service for infants and preschoolers who may grow restless.  During the 11 a.m. service, as a part of caring for its youngest saints, Westminster offers Godly Play for 3-5 year olds.  Godly Play begins at 11:15 in Room 13, but children may join in at any time after the Passing of the Peace.

The Sacrament of Baptism is available to those who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and wish to unite with the Church, and to believers who wish to have their children baptized.

Music

O come, let us sing to the Lord and shout with joy to the rock of our salvation!  Let us come into God's presence with thanksgiving, singing joyful songs of praise.  Psalm 95:1, 2

Westminster's outstanding music program involves a wide variety of people of all ages and skills.  Our musicians fill the sanctuary with praise, add spice to fellowship events, educate our young people, and provide an outlet for those who love to worship God through song.

Adult Choir

The Adult Choir leads worship at the 11 a.m. Sunday service and at other special occasions and services.  The choir sings a wide range of musical styles, from traditional choral masterpieces to world music from non-Western cultures.  The Adult Choir offers at least one major work per year with instrumental/orchestral accompaniment.  Members and friends of Westminster are invited to join.  Rehearsals are on Wednesday evening, from 7 - 8:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Interested in singing?  Please contact Rick for more information about the Adult Choir.

8:30 Worship Ensemble

The 8:30 a.m. Sunday worship service offers the opportunity for instrumentalists and singers to worship in a less formal style - with piano, flute, string bass, and percussion.  Other instruments are also welcome additions to the spirit of the service!  Although there is no formal choir for this service, singers are needed to help lead the congregation.  Rehearsal is at 8:00 a.m. each Sunday morning prior to the service.

Would you like to share your gifts?  Please contact Rick for more information about the 8:30 Worship Ensemble.

Preschool Songtime

Preschool children are treated to a special song time each Sunday morning in Room 14 from 9:40 - 9:55 a.m.  They learn exciting Bible stories through hymns of the church as well as new songs with lots of action!
